Farai Magada, a presenter at Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), has been reinstated at Classic 263 radio station following her suspension in January 2024. Magada, along with Victoria Manase, was suspended after making contentious remarks about Ndebele King Lobengula Khumalo on live television.

During a segment on ZTV’s Good Morning Zimbabwe (GMZ), Manase alleged that King Lobengula sold the nation’s mineral resources to British imperialists for sugar. Magada further remarked that colonialism was partially justified, citing improvements in attire and access to media platforms.

After a disciplinary hearing, Magada received a written warning and returned to work, while Manase, a part-time presenter, left the organization.

Effie Ncube, a political analyst, criticized the media for perpetuating harmful stereotypes and emphasized the importance of national unity. He urged the government and ZBC to clarify Magada’s reinstatement to prevent further social division.

Mbuso Fuzwayo, secretary-general of Ibhetshu LikaZulu, expressed disappointment at Magada’s return, citing government complicity in promoting harmful beliefs.

This incident follows a previous controversy involving Magada, who accused then ZBC Director of Radio Services Robson Mhandu of sexual harassment in 2023. Mhandu’s contract was not renewed by ZBC, leading to his departure in February 2024.
