Spotlight: The notion of belonging and identity is very important to any individual especially with the level of migration and globalization we now live in. The issue of identity and culture are some of the issues you come across as you listen to the music of rising singing sensation Zanib.

Zanib is a vocalist, violinist and ukulele performer who is based in the United States. She is a first generation American, born to Sudanese immigrants and is writing, producing and recording music stamped with a deep sense of authenticity that comes from her unique life experiences.

One of the songstress’s earliest releases include the single “Shine”, a motivational song which encourages people to move forward and also a self-affirming song. The single showed her smooth vocals and her ability to capture the attention of her audience with her bold presence in the accompanying music video.

An eight track album ‘Salam’ was released in 2018. In 2021, Zanib released her EP ‘Desert Season’ which she also produced. The EP was released through Freedom Waves label, which she is also CEO. The EP features “Catch Me If You Can” which has her sing in both Arabic and English. The song is also backed by a trap beat, showcases her ability to rap and an artistic music video, Catch Me if You Can.

Her latest release is the single “Up” (Zanib – UP (Official Music Video) – YouTube) which blends Afro-beats and influences of pop music. The music video accompanying the single is a display of two worlds; it shows the skylines of Cairo and also Los Angeles.
