Founder and Director of Xeroderma Pigmentosum Family Support Zimbabwe (XPFSZ), Pauline Rumbidzai Mapuvire is one of the women making a profound impact in Zimbabwe.
Her organization supports individuals with Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP), a rare genetic disorder that makes their skin extremely sensitive to sunlight. XPFSZ works tirelessly to educate communities and provide essential support to those affected, dispelling misconceptions that XP is caused by witchcraft.
By doing so, they aim to create a more inclusive and compassionate society. Many children with XP yearn for love, acceptance, and support from their communities. XPFSZ’s work is crucial in providing emotional support, medical assistance, and financial aid to these individuals and their families. Pauline’s organization has become a lifeline for those affected by XP, demonstrating the power of community-driven initiatives.

Her passion for helping others was sparked by a television broadcast featuring a child suffering from XP. She initiated a fundraising campaign and later used her own resources to support the child, eventually establishing XPFSZ in 2017. Today, her organization continues to make a significant difference in the lives of individuals with XP across Zimbabwe, touching both rural and urban communities. It is important to note that regular skin and eye examinations are crucial for early detection and treatment of skin cancers and eye abnormalities.
We celebrate Pauline’s dedication to supporting individuals with XP and her tireless efforts to raise awareness about this rare condition. Her work serves as an inspiration for us to follow in reaching out to those in need and promoting a more compassionate society.
