Weevirs Creative Foundation is a mobile creative hub currently based in South Africa. The foundation provides art and painting lessons to children aged 4 to 16 in the Matlosana area, practicing the motto, “Catch them young.” Their mission is to offer accessible, enriching art education programs to children in both urban and marginalized communities.
Weevirs Creative Foundation offers a range of workshops, including painting, drawing, sculpture, abstract art, craft printables, and recycled art. These workshops help children develop new skills, boost creativity, and foster cultural appreciation. The foundation has positively impacted over 100 children from various South African communities, including Alabama, Jouberton, Orkney, Kanana, Khuma, and Ellaton.
In an exclusive interview, founder and Artistic Director Rethabile Weevirs shared with My Afrika Magazine that the foundation has already organized exceptional workshops. These workshops not only teach children how to tell their stories through painting but also encourage them to take responsibility for preserving their culture and environment.
“We have a series of workshops planned from November 2024 to March 2025, covering a variety of activities including painting, sculpture, storytelling, cultural art, and art history,” said Rethabile. “These workshops are designed to inspire creativity while teaching environmental responsibility and cultural appreciation.”
Rethabile added, “Our workshops offer children a safe space to express themselves creatively, helping them develop artistic skills, self-confidence, and emotional resilience. Through partnerships with schools and local communities, we ensure that children from all backgrounds have access to our programs.”
The Weevirs Creative Foundation aims to expand into other communities, enhance their studio spaces, and hire additional qualified instructors to broaden their reach. The foundation is also seeking funding to continue providing these valuable programs and to further grow their impact across Africa.
