Opposition leader Bobi Wine has reportedly sustained a leg injury following what witnesses on social media describe as a confrontation with a uniformed police officer.

Najja Ssenyonjo, the personal assistant to Bobi Wine, reported to the media that the international pop star is suspected of having been shot and is now receiving medical care at Nsambya Hospital in the capital city, Kampala.

According to Ssenyonjo, the incident occurred while Bobi Wine was en route to meet his lawyers. However, the Ugandan police released a statement claiming that the opposition leader had simply stumbled while getting into his vehicle and announced that an investigation would be conducted to determine the facts.

Bobi Wine, known as a prominent opponent of President General Museveni, is a symbol of resistance for many in Africa, particularly the youth and Generation Z in Uganda.

The incident took place just a day after police in Kampala arrested three women, partially undressed, who were protesting against corruption in the country. The women, members of the Uganda Freedom Activists, were marching towards parliament with anti-corruption slogans painted on their bodies, calling for action to “Save the women, save the children, save the future, and end corruption.” They also carried placards with messages such as, “Uganda is not poor; they are stealing our wealth.

These incidents reveal the underlying tensions in Uganda, bringing to light the real struggles faced by those who challenge the status quo and demand accountability in a nation at a crossroads.
