OPINION: What will happen to our destinations in the future if we do not act now might be a million dollar question but the tourism industry has a very good answer. Starting from the UN Tourism up to the hordes of responsible tourists everyone is crying out loud for the sake of sustainable tourism. Sustainability in the sense of taking care of the present so as to protect the future. For a worthy iniative, it is all about treasuring what we have so that the next generations to come will enjoy Planet Earth unabashedly. Infact, when we get that into practice we will definitely achieve what we call smart tourism.
Sustainability focuses on the three aspects that is the planet, the people and the profit or should i say the environment, the economy and the social aspect to boot. For a typology, sustainable tourism is against anything that is harmful to the aforementioned protocols that are observed and worshipped by the hospitality pool at large. Allow me to say that, tourism as a catalyst has since flipped the script on climate change with climate action stances like the zero carbon footprint movement. Hashtag hundred percent vigilancy to protecting thee ozone layer. Reference wise, Sustainable Development Goal number thirteen on Climate Action aims to mobilize a hundred billion US dollars annually so as to address the needs of developing countries to adapt to climate change.
Thus, reducing the greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 inline with promoting smart cities and smart destinations. With all due respect, we can take care of the earth whilst having fun. Sustainable hospitality is the way to go and it’s awareness has since opened the eyes of one too many tourism players. Accordingly, in Hong Kong they are currently working on a zero waste journey so that we will have our holidays without regrets or a guilty conscience at most. To keep abreast with climate change, there is need to understand waste and loss so as to create the best practices for waste management. Believe you me, cultivating a sustainable mindset in the tourism consortium can foster a culture of waste reduction in the long run. Sustainability symbolises protecting planet earth now for a safer and better tomorrow. Suffice it to say, sustainable tourism is an eco-friendly tool thats feeds on reducing, reusing, recycling, conservation and preservation as well.
They say scratch my back and i will scratch yours therefore everyone has to take care of the environment and it will do likewise. With sustainability, we can go beyond the present so as to learn from the past and look to the future thereby changing the narrative
