The SunCentral solar farm is expanding its impact beyond clean energy, rolling out a series of community upliftment initiatives across Emthanjeni and Hanover, benefiting hundreds of residents.
SolarAfrica, the project owner, joined forces with principal contractor Proconics Newfields to deliver a comprehensive Corporate Social Investment programme focused on healthcare, education, business development and support for vulnerable groups.
Improving access to healthcare, the partners donated 30 wheelchairs to clinics in De Aar and Hanover, addressing shortages and offering dignity and mobility to people living with disabilities.
At Emthanjeni Primary School, learners now have a new reading room, designed to boost literacy and foster a stronger culture of learning. Meanwhile, Hanover Primary School received new outdoor play equipment, creating a safe space that promotes physical activity and social development.
Local enterprises also benefited. A three-month workshop equipped SMMEs with skills needed to participate in large-scale construction projects—strengthening job creation, compliance and long-term economic participation.
“Every project is an opportunity to uplift the communities we serve,” said Proconics Newfields representative Takalani Mamburu, praising the partnership’s impact.
SolarAfrica’s Community and Economic Specialist Pamela Matyeka added, “We’re proud to support stronger healthcare services, better learning environments and empowered local businesses.”
