South African Airways (SAA) has announced the suspension of the pilots’ strike that commenced on 5 December 2024. The resolution, reached in the early hours of 7 December at 02h00, marks the successful conclusion of negotiations between SAA Executive Management and the South African Airways Pilots Association (SAAPA).

Key to the agreement is an additional 1% salary increase for pilots, bringing the total increase to 9.47%. This development ensures that more than 100 pilots will return to duty by midday today, setting the stage for a full resumption of SAA’s flight schedule by Sunday, 8 December 2024.

Professor Lamola, speaking on behalf of SAA management, emphasized the significance of the resolution. “As part of the agreement that broke the deadlock in wage negotiations, engagements on a continuous enterprise improvement program will continue over the next eight weeks. We are committed to implementing work-life concessions that should enhance the productivity of our world-acclaimed pilots,” he stated.

The airline has extended its gratitude to its customers for their patience and support during the strike period. SAA reassures passengers that operations are on track to return to normal and advises them to stay updated via the SAA website at www.flysaa.com and its social media platforms.

This resolution signifies a positive step for South African Airways, underscoring its commitment to maintaining a balance between employee satisfaction and operational excellence.
