The Southern African Solar Thermal Training & Demonstration Initiative (SOLTRAIN) has unveiled an incredible opportunity for postgraduate students passionate about renewable energy. The SOLTRAIN+ project is offering bursaries for up to 20 Master’s and PhD theses focused on renewable heating and cooling, with a special emphasis on solar thermal energy.

Funded by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and co-funded by the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), SOLTRAIN+ is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at promoting solar thermal technology in Southern Africa. This project is not just about funding; it is about building a sustainable energy future through training, demonstration projects, and research support.

Austria, through initiatives like SOLTRAIN+, has been a strong advocate for solar energy projects in Africa. These efforts include funding, technical support, and capacity-building activities, which have led to the successful implementation of numerous solar thermal systems across the continent. Austrian-affiliated partners are working tirelessly to promote renewable energy, ensuring that communities have access to sustainable and efficient energy solutions.

This initiative by SOLTRAIN+ not only supports the academic growth of students but also contributes to the broader goal of sustainable development in Southern Africa. By fostering innovation and research in renewable energy, SOLTRAIN+ is paving the way for a greener and more sustainable future.

This bursary call is a golden opportunity for African students to delve into the world of renewable energy. With the global shift toward sustainable energy, expertise in solar thermal technology is becoming invaluable. The bursaries, offering up to €2,100, enable students to focus on their research without financial worries. The opportunity is available to postgraduate students from Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe specializing in renewable heating and cooling, particularly solar thermal energy.
