Prince William, currently in Cape Town, South Africa, is spending four days promoting his passion project, the Earthshot Prize. Upon arrival, he met with young environmentalists participating in the inaugural Earthshot Climate Leaders Youth Programme, inspiring them with the message, “You are going to change the world.”

On social media, he posted, “Molweni Cape Town, it’s great to be back in South Africa! What a week we have ahead for the fourth annual @EarthshotPrize Awards and the @united4wildlife Summit. We can’t wait to share it with you.

Prince William also visited Ocean View Secondary School, where he joined rugby legends Joel Stransky, Tendai “The Beast” Mtawarira, and Percy Montgomery in a coaching session. He then observed a digital skills lesson with students in the Atlas Foundation’s rugby and digital training program.

At Wednesday’s Earthshot Prize Awards, the Prince commended Tanzania and Namibia for their conservation efforts. Reflecting on a recent visit, he said, “I was struck by the incredible impact. Thanks to their ingenuity, biodiversity is returning, animals are being protected, and jobs are being created.” He noted that while these communities dedicate themselves to solving environmental challenges, they need more support to accelerate their progress.

The Earthshot Prize winners were:

  • Green Africa Youth Organization: Earthshot Prize to Clean Our Air
  • Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative: Earthshot Prize to Protect and Restore Nature
  • Keep IT Cool (Raino Tech4Impact): Earthshot Prize to Build a Waste-Free World
