Senegal’s President has concluded his official visit to Japan with a strong reaffirmation of the enduring ties between Senegal and Japan, as the two nations celebrate 65 years of diplomatic relations.

The visit, which coincided with the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) and Senegal Day at the Osaka-Kansai 2025 World Expo, underscored a partnership anchored in peace, democracy, mutual respect, and international law.

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye expressed gratitude to His Majesty Emperor Naruhito, Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, and the people of Japan for their warm welcome and hospitality throughout the visit. He noted that the city of Osaka, with its blend of centuries-old tradition and modern innovation, provided the perfect setting to strengthen cooperation and project a shared future built on technology, investment, vocational training, and humanism.

The Senegalese leader congratulated organizers of the World Expo for what he called a “global success,” while reaffirming Senegal’s commitment to deepening its strategic partnership with Japan. He emphasized that this collaboration would remain a win-win relationship in service of both peoples and Africa at large.

Highlighting Senegal Day at Expo Osaka-Kansai 2025, the President said the occasion showcased the best of Senegal’s people, values, and abundant potential. He praised all contributors for making the day a success, adding: “Senegal has much to offer the world. Together, through work and unity, let us build a future of prosperity and hope.”
