Nigeria’s biggest men’s fashion week is hosting over 40 designers from across the continent and beyond, as the Men’s Fashion Week debuted in Abuja on August 9th at its traditional venue, the Jabi Lake Mall.
Designers from Ghana, Togo, Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Sweden, and other countries will be showcasing their work. Notable names include KK Wears (Nigeria), Trendy Johnson (Nigeria), and AO Afriq (Nigeria).
The Founder of Men’s Fashion Week Nigeria, Santiago Roberts, addressed the media in Abuja, both in-person and virtually. He described the show as a unique platform for discovering young and emerging designers and models from across Nigeria, providing them with the opportunity to reach the international fashion industry.
He also highlighted that the 9th edition of the show, supported by Vento, Istanbul Restaurant, and Jabi Lake Mall, was conceived and created with a vision to redefine the future of fashion and integrate Nigeria’s men’s fashion into the global fashion scene.
“The Men’s Fashion Week Nigeria is designed to provide the best tools for our designers to get the exposure they require, not just across the continent but globally,” Roberts stated, adding that it is a platform that drives Nigerian and ultimately African fashion by bringing together buyers, consumers, and the media to view the latest collections.
This year’s 13th edition will be held over three days, concluding on August 11th.
Oparinde added, “This year, we will have competitions to stimulate the creativity of our young people. We are not just celebrating fashion, but building the innovativeness of our youth.”
In previous editions, Men’s Fashion Week has featured products designed by award-winning international designers, including Tanzania’s Presidential Designer Sheria Ngowi, Nigeria’s Swimwear Costume Designer Daffe Mute, South Africa’s international designer Thando Piliso, and Oquophi Akutoah.
