Peter Ndlovu, the first African to grace the English Premier League (EPL), came tantalizingly close to the coveted EPL trophy during a recent event in Harare.

Ndlovu, renowned for his groundbreaking stint with Coventry City, where he cemented his name in history as the inaugural African EPL player in 1992, expressed his affinity for Liverpool, despite never clinching the title himself.

Accompanying the prestigious EPL trophy on its tour through Zimbabwe, Ndlovu reminisced about his illustrious career and his famous hat-trick against Liverpool at Anfield in 1995. A lifelong Liverpool supporter, Ndlovu remains hopeful that the Reds will secure the championship this season, despite their recent setback against Everton.

With Liverpool trailing Arsenal by three points with four games remaining, Ndlovu maintains his faith in the Reds’ ability to stage a comeback. Undeterred by the challenges, he believes that Liverpool’s pedigree will shine through in the final stretch of the season.

Reflecting on his journey from Zimbabwe to the EPL, Ndlovu emphasized the importance of determination and honesty, dismissing age cheating as a hindrance to players’ development. He credited his success to dedication and hard work, paving the way for future generations of African footballers.

As Ndlovu basked in the honor of being close to the EPL trophy, he expressed gratitude to Castrol for bringing the coveted symbol of excellence to Zimbabwe. Interacting warmly with fans, Ndlovu cherished the opportunity to be part of the EPL legacy, despite never lifting the trophy himself.

Premier League Trophy Ambassador, John Cochrane, commended Ndlovu for blazing a trail for African players in the EPL, underscoring the significance of his contribution to the league’s diversity and global appeal. As Ndlovu continues to inspire generations of footballers, his legacy remains indelibly marked in the chronicles of African football.
