Mountain tourism can only be experienced to the fullest in Nyanga and this time around we are talking about Mt Nyangani. A mountain that continues to make waves from time to time. It has been called sacred among other pseudo names because of its constant hover of fog. The last time i checked this mountain is still the highest one in Zimbabwe. Standing at 2,592 metres or 8,504 feet it deserves our utmost appreciation. A round of applause for its standing ovation.

Mt Nyangani defines tourism development at most because a lot of tourists have this hiking fever that need to be assuaged by a hiking trail. Let’s just say that avid hikers are creatures of habit. Ensconced in the thick of Nyanga National Park, it is situated about a hundred and ten kilometres northwest of Mutare. Notably, abseiling campers are guaranteed of a spectacular view of Mtarazi and Pungwe Falls that is if you are bent on reaching the peak of the mountain. To narrow it down, this is what we call conquering the mighty heights of Mt Nyangani. Thee peak can be reached within one to three hours by anyone on average fitness. In the aftermath of the hike, tourists will have lost some calories because we are talking about working up a sweat.

All in all, if a destination gets a mountain as part of the package then it changes the whole landscape. The itinerary becomes more special than the others. Rumour has it that the Eastern Highlands is known for the Vumba Heights but Mt Nyangani is in a league of its own. A force to be reckoned with. For all intents and purposes, the mountain has three main ascents or access points laden with markings so as to avoid our tourists from getting lost. Even Hensel and Gretel knew this trick so at your own risk has got nothing on this excursion. Every Tom, Dick and Harry will be in a position to do some mountain climbing if they have the necessary information on their fingertips. For starters, the first ascent is the Tourist Path which is popular with the assistance of the tour guides. It’s gets more exciting because adrenalin junkies will have the chance to experience every bit of the excursion. The second path runs from the Mountain Club and the third one runs from Nyazengu, southwest of the mountain. All this activity will be happening in the belly of Mt Nyangani not to forget that it also cradles the Gairezi and Nyamuziwa Rivers. Fortunately, the two rivers run across it making the scenic beauty of the mountain more profound. The long and short of it all is that, the future of mountain tourism lies in Mt Nyangani.

The Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe is a place to be. It’s a hotspot in its own right, a tourism package that is so unique that tourists cannot get enough of it. The Manicaland Province was dubbed the Highlands because of its breathtaking landscape which has gorges, rivers, mountains, umbrella trees and waterfalls you name it. The tourism destination habors the highest mountain countrywide by the name of Mount Nyangani which is found in Nyanga National Park. In regards to this attraction, Nyanga has the future of mountain tourism in its hands.  Betterstill when tourists get the chance to tread their way on the highest Skywalk and Skyline of Mutarazi they will be able to witness the Mutarazi Falls which are a sight to behold. In addition, the famous Nyangombe Falls graced the flyer for the 2025 edition of the Tourism Expo thereby promoting the idea of memorable experiences.

All this will be happening in destination Nyanga before our visitors decide to descend on Chimanimani National Park and the Bridal Veil Falls in that order. They will be torn between viewing the cascading rivulets or to just stand under it and be baptised by the crystal clear water. After that, it is advisable to visit the Nyanyadzi Hotsprings which also has some healing powers that is medical tourism. Also, it is believed that if you throw money in the hotsprings and make a wish then it will surely come true. At this juncture, we have to talk about the Birchenough Bridge which has been around for quite some time. The bridge ironically brings out the beauty of manmade architecture in the midst of a galore of natural attractions. Next in line, there is Chipinge which has thick forests like Chirinda.

To be frank, the Big Tree or the Khaya Anthotheca is found in Chirinda Forest which is the oldest and tallest tree to date. Thus, Zimbabwe is a World of Wonders. For all our hikers out there the Eastern Highlands Tourism(EHT) has the Vumba Heights which will assuage your zest for abseiling among other activities like camping. Finally there is the Honde Valley which is the home of agrotourism due to its various orchards and banana plantations. After all has been said and done, Mutare is the capital city of the Eastern Highlands. Infact, tourists have to brave the Christmas Pass so as to get to all the aforementioned destinations.
