Musical sensation Mbuya Dorcas Muranda has recently released a song titled ‘Vanunureyi’ which speaks against the surge of substance abuse that has taken over Zimbabwean society. The song was released a few days ago and was accompanied with a music video directed by Elly Mhungu.
‘Vanunureyi’ is a gospel track that speaks of and is a plea for divine intervention in the face of its consequences. “Seeing children devastated by drugs and parents who are troubled. Also seeing how some children want to stop but are unable to. I thought that we should cry to God to help our children. As parents we have tried but we have failed,” said Muranda as she explained the inspiration behind her latest track.
“I hope that this song will open the eyes of the youth to see that theirs and the country’s future is destroyed [by substance abuse]. Also, for parents to forgive their children when they turn from substance abuse.” Muranda has seen a surge in her career of late with the release of “Tizozorora Tasvika” a single which found itself on musical charts and circulation around Zimbabwe.
She is seventy-seven years of age and launched her singing career a few years ago in 2021 with the release of her debut album ‘Dombo Ndi Jesu’. Muranda writes most of her music and hopes to encourage and minister to as many people through her music.
