Sitting at the helm of Finch Wear is Kwanele Thusi, a South African multi-talented artist and entrepreneur. Finch Wear is not just any brand of underwear; it’s known for its comfort and quality, making it the go-to choice for those who can’t wait to slip into a fresh pair after a long day. Best known for their men’s briefs and boxers, Finch Wear has become one of the leading underwear brands in Africa, praised for its affordability and comfort, especially for those in sports.
Recently, two powerhouse underwear brands in Africa, Finch Wear and Nigeria’s Daffe Unmute, have joined forces in a partnership set to make a global impact. Thusi shared the exciting news with My African Magazine, stating, “Our brand is about to work with a Nigerian company called Daffe Unmute. They are a company working in textile and underwear, and it’s a great partnership to make more impact.” He also revealed that he will soon be in Nigeria for the AFDA Awards, where he has been nominated for Best Newcomer Designer and African Male Model of the Year.
Thusi believes that collaboration is essential for growth, not just for his brand but for the industry as a whole. “I think collaboration is key to growth. The more people get access to the products, the better. Designers have to work together to grow. You can’t work in isolation,” he emphasized.
When asked if his brand has received the same level of support for partnerships in his home country of South Africa as it has in Nigeria, Thusi noted the challenges of fostering collaborations in South Africa. “No, our country is still catching up to the crazy ideas I have with my brand,” he explained. “I believe also the ecosystem of collaboration in South Africa is not as strong as overseas. I am happy that my clothes are being bought (giggles). I didn’t think they would even be sold overseas, and that’s why I am shocked!”
Thusi remains optimistic that every collaboration brings more gains than losses, fostering growth for both brands involved. As Finch Wear continues to expand its reach, Thusi’s vision of a united front in African fashion moves closer to reality, making a significant mark on the global stage.
