His Majesty King Mswati III officially commissioned the Maguga Hydropower Expansion Project, marking a significant step in Eswatini’s efforts to boost energy production. The expansion will see the Maguga Power Station generate an additional 10MW, increasing its total capacity to 30MW.
During the commissioning, His Majesty was briefed on other upcoming projects around Maguga, as well as the planned Ngwemphisi Power Project, which is expected to contribute 120MW to the national grid. These initiatives align with Eswatini’s goal of enhancing energy security and reducing reliance on imported electricity.

As part of the tour, His Majesty inspected the Maguga Dam before concluding his visit at Maguga Lodge. He expressed concerns about the deteriorating condition of Maguga Road, prompting Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini to assure him that the government will prioritize its rehabilitation.
The expansion of Maguga Hydropower underscores Eswatini’s commitment to sustainable energy development, with further investments in infrastructure expected to support economic growth and energy self-sufficiency.
