Port-au-Prince, Haiti – The Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti, backed by the United Nations Security Council, is making significant strides in restoring stability and hope to the Caribbean nation. In a statement, President William Samoei Ruto of Kenya highlighted the progress achieved, noting the positive impact on Haiti’s path towards peace and prosperity.

During his visit to Haiti, President Ruto engaged with the Transitional Presidential Council, led by President Edgard Le Leblanc, along with other key stakeholders. He emphasized the importance of leveraging the current period of relative calm to drive forward essential reforms and initiate progressive changes that will further stabilize the country.

“I have urged the leadership to capitalize on this moment of peace to push for transformative change,” said President Ruto. “This opportunity is critical for the future of Haiti, and it is essential to maintain the momentum to ensure lasting stability.”

Ahead of his participation in the United Nations General Assembly, President Ruto affirmed that he is now better prepared to engage with global leaders on the situation in Haiti. At the UN, he intends to draw attention to the necessity of making full use of the progress achieved in recent weeks and realizing the objectives set out in Security Council Resolution 2699, which mandates the security mission.

In his visit to Port-au-Prince, President Ruto also met with members of the Kenyan Police Force deployed as part of the mission. He pledged the deployment of an additional 600 officers to reinforce ongoing efforts, demonstrating Kenya’s continued commitment to Haiti’s security and long-term stability.

The mission’s successes are seen as a vital step towards achieving peace and prosperity in Haiti, offering the country renewed hope for a stable future.
