Beijing, China – Kenya and Chad are exploring new areas of cooperation to strengthen their diplomatic relations, focusing on mutual interests such as trade, regional security, and climate action. Kenyan President William Ruto met with Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno in Beijing, where they discussed a range of bilateral and regional issues.

The two leaders held talks on Chad’s pivotal role in resolving the ongoing conflict in Sudan, particularly in managing the influx of refugees. President Deby Itno shared insights on his country’s efforts to mediate the conflict and underscored the importance of regional stability for both Chad and its neighbors.

Additionally, the discussions touched on Kenya’s support for the candidature of the Rt Hon. Raila Odinga for the position of African Union Commission chairperson. President Ruto emphasized Kenya’s commitment to backing Odinga’s bid, highlighting the need for strong leadership within the African Union to address the continent’s pressing challenges.

The meeting between the two leaders marks a significant step in enhancing Kenya-Chad relations, with both countries expressing a commitment to deepening their collaboration in areas of shared concern.
