Former President Jacob Zuma narrowly escaped injury in a car accident on Thursday evening in KwaZulu-Natal while en route to a campaign rally for the uMkhonto weSizwe Party in Eshowe. The incident, which occurred on the R66 shortly before 7 pm, stirred speculation and concern.

According to SABC News, the MK Party, which enjoys the support of Zuma, hinted at foul play in the accident. This development came hot on the heels of the Electoral Commission’s decision to uphold objections to Zuma’s nominations for parliamentary candidacy.

In response, the uMkhonto we Sizwe party pledged to push for Zuma’s inclusion on its parliamentary list despite the IEC’s ruling. Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, IEMSA chairperson Terry Tselane explained that the MK party retains the option to challenge the IEC’s decision in the Electoral Court.

Zuma, nominated as the party’s main candidate for the National Assembly, faces legal hurdles due to his criminal record, marking a contentious chapter in South Africa’s democratic history.
