The countdown to the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 officially began in Harare on Thursday as Zimbabwe Cricket, led by chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani, presented the tournament trophy to Acting President, Vice President General (Rtd) Constantino Chiwenga.
The ceremony marked the official start of the global youth showpiece, which Zimbabwe will co-host with Namibia from 15 January to 6 February 2026. The presentation followed a successful national trophy tour through Masvingo, Bulawayo and Harare, drawing enthusiastic public participation.
Receiving the trophy, Acting President Chiwenga described the moment as historic, noting that it symbolised more than sport. He said the tournament reflects youth empowerment, global partnership and renewed confidence in Zimbabwe’s ability to host world-class events.
Chiwenga added that the World Cup aligns with Zimbabwe’s national development agenda, particularly youth development, economic growth through sport and national unity. He also assured the ICC and stakeholders of the Government’s full support in delivering a successful tournament.
