Former South African Finance Minister Tito Mboweni will be honored with a special official Category 2 funeral, as confirmed by the South African government.

Mboweni, who was the first black governor of the South African Reserve Bank, will be laid to rest in his hometown of Tzaneen in Limpopo province on Saturday. This funeral category is reserved for individuals who have made significant contributions to the nation, reflecting the respect and recognition Mboweni has earned throughout his career.

The former minister passed away following a short illness, and his burial will pay tribute to his legacy in both the financial and political arenas of South Africa.

Proceedings will be broadcast live on most SA stations.
