The journey began with over 100 aspiring models eager to join the FinchWear brand, according to Kwanele Thusi, the brand’s founder. However, many had to be eliminated as the brand had space for only 10 models.
Kwanele told My Afrika Magazine that the top 10 will be selected in July and will have the opportunity to be mentored and trained at the House of Finch in South Africa. Their contracts will officially start in August.
“The top 10 will be given a one-year contract to be mentored and skilled. They will be based at the House of Finch, Maboneng,” said Kwanele Thusi.
When asked about the competition among the top 25 contenders, Kwanele noted that it is fierce, with all candidates showcasing exceptional talent.
“I would say all the top 25 stand out, and there are some special faces from Zimbabwe like Future Nyoni. There is also Mr. South Africa contender Sambawell, and Ayoma from the DRC,” he remarked.
As the region transitions from winter to summer, Kwanele noted that the brand is prepared for the change, planning to showcase their summer products. He emphasized that the new products will be inspired by sports and his cultural background.
“We are currently preparing to have our fashion show in the summer. We are just taking it one step at a time. We can’t show our collection yet as we want to do a big launch,” advised Thusi.
“We want the FinchWear brand to be accessible and affordable. I have always loved sports and embraced my Zulu culture. I wanted to merge these two elements of my life and showcase them through fashion,” he added.
The FinchWear brand is also planning to release a reality show featuring the top 10 chosen models before the end of the year.
