A child’s life can be significantly and deeply impacted by growing up with an absent father. The absence can manifest in various ways, including physical absence, emotional unavailability, or a lack of consistent involvement.
Family Impact is a Non-profit organisation committed to the goal of helping young boys and girls with absent fathers to cope and process the pain and void of paternal rejection.
The organisation will be conducting a Daddy Issues summit on 22 November 2025 at Celebration Centre in Harare. The summit will explore the complexities of father absence and work towards healing and empowerment.
Family Impact executive director, Leopold Enson said: “Growing up with an absent father can leave deep emotional scars that can affect every aspect of life. From feelings of abandonment and low self-worth to struggles with trust and intimacy, the pain of father absence can be profound.

“As we navigate our personal and professional lives, it’s essential to acknowledge the impact of our childhood experiences on our adult selves. By sharing our stories and supporting one another, we can begin to heal and break free from the patterns of pain and struggle. If you’re struggling with the pain of father absence, know that you’re not alone. Let’s work together to create a supportive community where we can share our experiences and find healing,” he said.
Children may express disappointment at the absence of a relationship or the presence they desire. Feelings of loneliness, emptiness, and a lingering sensation of something missing may result from this.
Someone may also feel bitterness and contempt towards the parent who isn’t there. Feelings of rejection, abandonment, or the loss of a basic relationship can all be the source of this rage. To add on, the absence of a father can also affect the child’s identity.
Being raised without a father is a very individualised experience that can show itself as a variety of feelings, actions, and interpersonal patterns.
