In recent years, social media has become a hub of entertainment, with TikTok standing out as a platform buzzing with activity. With an ever-growing user base, TikTok has given content creators opportunities to go viral, preach, advertise, and market businesses to younger audiences. Among these creators is Zimbabwean digital marketer Chido Mupfumira, also known as Chydoe, who has gained popularity with her humorous and innovative marketing videos.
Chido, who grew up in Chibondo, Hwange, attended Megawatt Primary School and later completed her secondary education at Marist Brothers Dete and Tsholotsho High School in Matabeleland. From a young age, Chido’s humor and chatter made her a favorite among her peers. Growing up in a joyful and close-knit family inspired her to channel her natural humor into digital marketing.
Her storytelling skills and witty personality have earned her over 58,000 TikTok followers in just a year and a half, along with an interview on one of Zimbabwe’s leading television stations. Chido has marketed various products, including kitchenware, clothing, cosmetics, hair products, and recreational centers like Stephen Margolis Resorts. Using her signature funny quotes, she acts as a human Google Maps, directing followers to chill spots, salons, boutiques, grocery stores, and more around Harare’s CBD. She shares detailed information about prices, promotions, and trends, making her content both entertaining and informative.
At just 22 years old, Chido has become a household name in Zimbabwe, earning her the nickname “Mai Harare.” Despite not growing up in Harare, her partnerships with local businesses have helped her become intimately familiar with the city’s streets and hotspots. Most of her clients come through referrals and direct requests via social media. She credits her humor and unique vibe for setting her apart in the crowded world of content creation and digital marketing.
Currently in her final year pursuing a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Industrial Sociology at the University of Zimbabwe, Chido plans to make marketing her full-time career. She intends to pursue a formal marketing program and refine her approach to what she calls “strategic marketing,” a method she believes requires creativity and passion to stand out in a market flooded with aspiring creators focused solely on financial gain.
Chido is looking to expand her presence to other social media platforms in the future, but for now, TikTok remains her primary launchpad. She encourages aspiring digital marketers, saying, “Don’t be afraid to start. Be consistent, and enjoy yourself while doing it—that way, the rest of the world will enjoy it too.”
Her journey is a testament to the power of combining passion, humor, and strategy in creating impactful digital content.
