Chakwera vows unrelenting effort in search for missing Vice President’s aircraft

Lilongwe, Malawi – President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has affirmed that the search and rescue mission for the missing plane carrying Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima and nine others will continue unabated. Speaking during a Presidential National Address at Kamuzu Palace, Chakwera emphasized his commitment to utilizing every available resource to locate the Vice President and his companions.

President Chakwera urged Malawians to rely on updates from the Malawi Defence Force (MDF), which he has instructed to provide regular and accurate information to prevent misinformation. He assured the public that the MDF is fully engaged in the search and rescue operation and has been directed to maintain their efforts until the plane is found.

In addition to the domestic efforts, Chakwera has reached out to neighboring countries and international development partners, including the governments of the United States, United Kingdom, Norway, and Israel, seeking their support and specialized technologies to aid the search mission. The President also called on the nation to unite in prayer for the safety of those on board.

The missing plane was carrying Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima, Lukas Kapheni, Chisomo Chimaneni, Gloria Mtukule, Shanil Dzimbiri, Dan Kanyemba, Abdul Lapukeni, Colonel Sambalopa, Major Selemani, and Major Aidin. The nation’s hope remains steadfast as efforts continue to locate the missing aircraft.
