The Bulawayo Models Awards (BMA) stands as Zimbabwe’s sole ceremony dedicated to recognizing the efforts of models and individuals contributing positively to the modelling industry.
Last December, the second edition of the Bulawayo Models Awards took place at the esteemed Holiday Inn Hotel in Bulawayo. The event drew fashion enthusiasts who witnessed the recognition of over twenty models, as well as professionals working within the modeling and fashion realm, including photographers, journalists, makeup artists, and fashion designers.
Co-organizer of the Bulawayo Models Awards, Pardon Khaya, revealed to My Afrika Magazine that he has been approached by undisclosed individuals interested in purchasing the platform. However, he firmly declined their offers, emphasizing his commitment to the integrity of the modelling industry and the Bulawayo Models community.
“I cannot betray my principles, my colleagues, or the models and supporters who have placed their trust in me. The modeling sector is thriving, and I will never entertain the idea of selling out. I would rather uphold my dreams until the end,” Khaya asserted.
When questioned about the understanding of the awards’ purpose by potential buyers, Khaya expressed concern that they lacked insight into the roots and objectives of the ceremony.
“They are solely focused on personal gain and lack an understanding of the true essence of the Bulawayo Models Awards,” he remarked.
Khaya reiterated that the primary goal of the Bulawayo Models Awards is to celebrate and honor all participants who contribute to the growth and development of the modelling industry, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the collective effort of models, photographers, journalists, designers, and others involved in their events.
