Botswana’s sporting history has a new chapter after junior tennis player Ntungamili Raguin became the first athlete from the country to win a match at a Grand Slam event.

The rising star achieved the milestone at the Australian Junior Open, defeating Bulgaria’s world number 25 junior, Dimitar Kisimov, in a hard-fought three-set encounter. Raguin took the opening set 7–5, dropped the second 1–6, and showed remarkable composure to clinch the decider and seal a landmark victory.

The result propels Raguin into the top 50 of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior rankings, underlining his rapid rise on the global stage and signalling a breakthrough moment for Botswana tennis.

President Duma Gideon Boko led the national celebrations, hailing the achievement as a source of pride for the country. “A proud moment! Go Botswana!” he wrote, as tributes poured in for the young trailblazer whose success is inspiring a new generation of athletes.
