Gaborone – Botswana’s Vice President, Ndaba Gaolathe, has issued a nationwide flood warning as heavy rains continue to batter the country. In an official statement, he urged citizens to prioritize safety, minimize movement, and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones.

As part of emergency measures, all schools across Botswana remained closed from Wednesday, to Monday, February 24, 2025, to safeguard students and educators from potential flooding and hazardous conditions.

“In times like these, our collective safety and well-being must remain our highest priority,” Gaolathe said. “We urge everyone to exercise caution and cooperate with authorities to ensure minimal risk to lives and property.”

The Vice President also extended gratitude to emergency responders, disaster management teams, and volunteers who are actively working to mitigate the impact of the floods. He called on citizens to follow official safety guidelines and support relief efforts.

Authorities have advised residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and be prepared for possible evacuations. The government continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as conditions develop.
