Marvelous Nakamba ushered Luton town to EPL

When one talks about the story of Marvelous Nakamba it is like the biblical story of Moses and the Israelites. To the Luton Town, the warriors’ defensive midfielder Marvelous Nakamba is the ‘Moses’ of their time.

Marvelous Nakamba led the English club Luton Town to the English Premier League as they defeated Coventry City 6-5 on penalties in the play-off final which was held at Wembley.

Nakamba played a starring role in the middle of the park and successfully converted his spot kick with Luton Town winning in sudden death penalty shoot-out for a return to the topflight after more than 30 years in lower leagues.

Nakamba was recognised as the man of the match.

The last time the Luton Town played in the topflight it was in 1992 however that was when they were relegated from the then English First Division that became the Premier League the following year’s season.

The victory of Luton Town reminded many Zimbabweans, who were in support of Nakamba of how good Zimbabweans are in the world of football.

Joy was in for Nakamba who was seen at the end of the game celebrating across the pitch filed with a Zimbabwean flag.

For the club that was once a home for the Warriors legend the Coventry City also known as the Sky Blues it was filled with tears. Coventry City were last in the English Premier League in 2001. Coventry City had finished fifth in the championship to earn a play-off spot, while Luton Town finished third.

Meanwhile, Nakamba who is still an Aston Villa player as his loan spell at Luton Town comes to an end at the end of the season.

His future is not clear if Nakamba will continue at Villa, but there are indications that Luton Town will sign him permanently from the Villans. For winning the play-off final, Luton Town will receive over £170 million.
