Kenya has launched a series of development initiatives aimed at accelerating economic inclusion, expanding access to higher education and upgrading critical infrastructure, as part of a broader national mission to lift 10 million citizens out of poverty.
President William Samoei Ruto said the government is pursuing an ambitious reform agenda anchored by the establishment of a National Infrastructure Fund and a Sovereign Wealth Fund, measures designed to narrow inequality and support Kenya’s long-term transition into a first-world economy.
“These instruments will help close the gap between the rich and the poor while laying a firm foundation for sustainable growth,” the President said.
In Turkana County, President Ruto laid the foundation stone for a KSh660 million students’ hostel at Turkana University, marking a significant investment in higher education in the region. The project forms part of a wider KSh2.5 billion programme to construct hostels across Turkana County, which will collectively accommodate up to 6,000 students and improve access to tertiary education.
The President also launched the upgrading of Lodwar town streets to bitumen standards, a move expected to enhance urban mobility, stimulate local commerce and improve living conditions for residents.
The combined initiatives underscore the government’s focus on inclusive development through education, infrastructure and economic reform, with Turkana County positioned as a key beneficiary of Kenya’s national development agenda.
