Spotlight: Sharisce Taruvinga (known by the mononymously as Sharisce) is upcoming Zimbabwean singer who released her debut album which boasts of a collaboration with one of Zimbabwe’s singing heavyweights. Flying high from the release of the major project, she spoke to us about the path that lead to the beginning of the new exciting chapter in her life and career.

The songstress started singing when she was about eight years old at church, for her family and at school. “I just didn’t know I was on a journey then,” she shared during her interview.

She enrolled at the Music Crossroads Academy in Harare where she honed her skills, worked on her voice and musicality whilst also mingling with other creatives. “I’m ready to explore, to learn to take on anything positive to do with music,” she shared with us.

One of her early releases include the song “Drinks” which is a 2024 afro-beats song which speaks on celebrating life. Her album ‘Genesis’ was released in the latter half of 2025 and consists of eight singles which showcase her diversity and growing creativity. “As I embarked on this journey, I knew it was the dawn of something new,” hence the title of the album. Putting the album together was a struggle for the emerging songstress who worked a day job then had to work on her music at night sometimes recording until 1 AM. The music on the album is heartfelt and contains singles dealing with love and also the beauty of life. “I connect(ed) to almost every song on the album, outside the album I’d say the same too. The process of writing songs came with relating to them and having to experience most of the things.”

Stand out singles from the album include “Toast to Life” which is a celebration of life’s goodness and the excitement that living has to offer. In the single “Check on Me” features one of Zimbabwe’s R&B/Hip-Hop staples, Shona Prince (aka Takura). The song is a plea for a lover’s affection and attention. When he asked her how she managed to secure the collaboration her reply was simply “God” before laughing.

“I am inspired by my parents, go getters, faith driven beings who have played a bigger role in boasting my confidence and being my support systems.” She is also influenced by the Canadian singer and actress Aqyila.

In the future, Sharisce plans on releasing more music and has set out to release an album or three singles in a year. For now, we behold the budding talent as she continues to build her career.
