Ghana and Morocco have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties following a high-level meeting on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York. Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), met with H.E. Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, to review progress made since Hon. Ablakwa’s recent working visit to Morocco.
Minister Bourita praised the action-oriented framework proposed during that visit, saying it has already delivered tangible results. One such outcome is the visa waiver arrangement, which has significantly eased travel for Ghanaian citizens. The two sides noted the next step would be to work towards full visa exemption to further boost mobility between the countries.
Cooperation in agriculture and education was also high on the agenda. Hon. Ablakwa thanked Morocco for supplying 40,000 bags of fertilizer to Ghana and for supporting collaboration between Moroccan agricultural experts, Ghanaian universities, and researchers. Minister Bourita assured Ghana of continued fertilizer supplies ahead of the next planting season, while both sides welcomed an increase in scholarships for Ghanaian students.
Looking to the future, the two Ministers explored opportunities to expand economic cooperation, particularly in trade and investment. They recalled the upcoming Ghana-Morocco Business Forum in November 2025 and discussed the possibility of a Moroccan business delegation visiting Ghana. Both expressed optimism that these engagements would help cement stronger ties and yield mutually beneficial outcomes.
