Zimbabwean poet, activist, and storyteller Mthulisi Ndlovu, also known as KingKG or KhuluGatsheni, is set to release a powerful new poetry anthology titled Politricks, Profits and Puppets. The collection, which will be available as an e-book on August 15, 2025, blends fearless protest poetry with evocative illustrations by fellow Zimbabwean artist James Muwanga.
Described as a “global literary force,” the anthology is the result of a unique collaboration bridging Zimbabwe and the United States. Edited by liberal arts writer and poet Levi Bearden under the mentorship of Dr. Paul Brooke at Grandview University, the project brings together literature, visual art, and academic insight. The book’s cover was designed by Sheppard Ncube, complementing its unapologetic and thought-provoking tone.
“This collection is more than poetry, it’s a call to action,” said Ndlovu. “Africa has to proudly and firmly own her narrative. Our history and truths deserve to be recorded with precision and clarity. We must shun derogatory narratives that seek to dim our light.”
The anthology explores themes of political manipulation, corruption, and social injustice, presenting them with raw honesty and creative intensity. Bearden described Ndlovu’s work as “deep, urgent, and transformative,” while Muwanga said illustrating the poems pushed him “to explore new dimensions of art” and create a visual dialogue with the writing.
Beyond literary expression, Politricks, Profits and Puppets highlights the power of cross-border creative collaboration and the ability of art to challenge perceptions and inspire change. It will be available internationally as a digital release, with plans for academic and literary discussions to follow.
