The President of the Republic of Kenya, William Samoei Ruto, announced significant strides in the country’s economic transformation, emphasizing that Kenya’s journey towards progress and stability is well underway. According to the President, the nation’s economy has stabilized, food production has markedly increased, the cost of living has substantially reduced, and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda is on course, bringing new hope to Kenyans.
President Ruto recently held consultative meetings at the State House in Nairobi with Members of Parliament from Samburu, Turkana, and Kakamega counties to discuss the government’s development agenda. During these meetings, they explored initiatives tailored to meet the specific needs of each county, focusing on critical areas such as affordable housing, the establishment of fresh produce markets, ICT hubs, electricity connectivity, and water and irrigation projects.
The President expressed his commitment to affordable housing, a key component of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which aims to make decent housing accessible to all Kenyans. He noted that housing projects would create employment, stimulate local economies, and provide families with secure homes. This vision aligns with the government’s broader plan to reduce urban congestion while creating sustainable living environments.
Fresh produce markets were another priority highlighted in the discussions. President Ruto acknowledged the importance of supporting local farmers by providing them with accessible and well-structured markets for their produce. This would not only enhance food security but also empower small-scale farmers, creating a ripple effect that would benefit entire communities and stabilize food prices.
In line with Kenya’s push toward digital transformation, ICT hubs were also discussed. The establishment of these hubs across counties will promote digital literacy, foster innovation, and provide young Kenyans with the resources needed to develop tech-based solutions. By creating opportunities for digital engagement, the government aims to boost Kenya’s position as a technology-driven economy and encourage youth involvement in national development.
The discussions further covered electricity connectivity, water, and irrigation projects to address critical infrastructure needs. Access to electricity remains vital for economic growth, and the government is working to expand connectivity to all regions. Water and irrigation projects are crucial for ensuring food security and empowering communities in arid and semi-arid regions like Samburu and Turkana, where agriculture relies heavily on irrigation.
President Ruto reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting Kenyans across all regions, ensuring that every citizen benefits from the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda. “The transformation of our country is well underway,” he said, reflecting his administration’s focus on inclusive growth and sustainable development. As Kenya progresses along this transformative path, these initiatives signal a bright future for the nation, with economic stability and social well-being as central pillars.
The meetings with MPs serve as a testament to the government’s commitment to collaborative governance, engaging leaders from all levels to address regional needs and drive the country toward prosperity.
